Mental Health Speaker Event: Breaking the Silence - PASSED
Hear the reflections of a fourth year clerk on coping with mental illness during clerkship and her encounter with a personal loss. This event will bring awareness to mental health stigma in medical training, as well as strategies used to stay well in clerkship while battling extreme stress.

SHINE has organized a FREE de-stressing yoga session with an instructor from Hart House. Yoga is a total mind-body workout that combines strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing and meditation or relaxation.

An opportunity for medical students to discuss the emotional experience of cadaveric dissections. The session will include a mindfulness session led by Michael Apollo, as well as a reflective activity.

Mental Health Speaker Event: Recovery - PASSED
Recovery: Coping with Addiction in the Medical Profession
Dr. Michael Kaufmann, medical director of the OMA Physician Health Program, and a resident from McMaster will be coming to share their personal experiences and mental health struggles as medical trainees. They will be offering personal and professional perspectives on addiction and recovery in medicine, and reveal the truths about the realistic consequences of stepping forward and seeking help.
The event will begin with an informal didactic piece on addiction problems in the medical profession and their personal experiences, and there will be opportunities to ask questions.

CFMS-SHINE Wellness Challenge! - PASSED
SHINE is partnering up with the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) to participate in a national Wellness Challenge! Interested in participating? Follow these steps:
- Make a mixed gender team of four students
- Email [email protected] to get your tracking sheet with daily and weekly challenges
- Like the SHINE Facebook page
- Make a team Twitter account and collect points by completing challenges! Make sure to share pictures on Twitter and Facebook with the hashtags #UofTwellness and #keepsmewell as proof you completed the challenges.
Mindfulness Seminars - PASSED
The Meds’ Mindfulness Group (MMG) is accepting applications for its seminar series! This series will consist of 8 sessions combining practical, experiential and theoretical education. Our speakers will cover a broad array of topics including the history and science behind mindfulness, the utility of mindfulness in reducing physician burnout and enhancing self-compassion, and how mindfulness can be used in working with various patient populations. Listen to guest speaker Dr. Rob Joffe speak about his personal experiences and challenges as a medical student, how he has overcome the stagnant point in his life, and his discovery of the key pieces that allow him to be happy as a physician.
